Happy 4th of July Weekend
Last week was a busy week, but this weekend was even busier!!
It all started Thursday night after Kevin and I got off work, we invited Grandma Robin, Dick and Great Aunt Judy and Great Uncle Ralph over for supper. Supper went great and the kids had a fun time showing our new guests all their stuff. It was really good to see Judy and Ralph again, thanks for stopping by and I’m glad to hear you’ve already made it home to CA safe and sound!
Friday morning Sophia and I took a quick walk up the block, then we decided it was a great day for a picnic. We threw together some food and drove to Gray’s Lake for some relaxing family time. It’s only a half hour drive through downtown, but I’ve never actually been there. Sophia and Derek were amazed by all the big downtown buildings. Once we got there, we had our picnic, then walked partially around the lake and back. Kevin posted a few of his great pics a few days back. Derek fell asleep in the car, so I hung out with him while Kevin and Sophia checked out the castle (capital) again.
We were headed to the carnival Friday night when it started raining, so we ended up at Toys R Us. The kids spent a half hour at the Thomas the Train area. That stuff is expensive!!
Saturday morning we got up early, had a big breakfast and headed to the parade. Surprisingly it only got into the upper 60s and sprinkled all morning. None the less, we all had a great time at the parade. The best part was the Black Hawk Helicopter that flew just over us. It was so close and Derek thought it was so cool. The worst part was when Sophia got hit in the head with a piece of flying candy. I think the entire neighborhood heard her dramatic screams. It really was another of Urbandale’s great parades!
After some long naps, we headed back to the Casteels for some partying. We had some good burgers and treats and hung out all night long. Sophia and Derek never stopped…there was way too much fun to be had!! At 10 pm, Derek and I walked over and saw the fireworks, while Kevin and Sophia hung out with Abigail and Amelia and watched Dora. After the traffic finally cleared up, we headed home. We pulled in the driveway about 11:30 and had the kids in bed by midnight. It was a great day and we all had a blast!!
This morning the kids let us sleep in until 9 am. We did some much needed cleaning and hanging out around the house. After naps, we headed over for some more good food at John and Amy’s. Quinton shared his pool and sprinkler with Derek and Sophia. Another wonderful day!!
The kids had no problems jumping in to ice cold water.
Derek got it started:

Wow that’s cold:

I’m not sure Derek asked for this:

I’m tired!! It was a great weekend, but I can’t remember the last time we’ve had so much going on! Maybe work will be relaxing tomorrow…I need a break!! We hope everyone had as good of a holiday weekend as we did!!
