The three-day weekend of Labor Day has finally come to an end, and Kevin and I feel…Hmm, what’s the word I’m looking for…LABORED!! Really, we had a fabulous weekend, it was just super busy and tiring!
Saturday morning we woke up early and took the kids to the zoo. We all had a great time, but Sophia had a blast. She loved to look at all the animals and would shrill with excitement at almost every one of them. She said the monkeys were her favorite, but she really enjoyed the sea lions and the giraffes too. Sophia and I even took a ride on a camel named Natasha, which she really enjoyed!

Derek did really good, despite being strapped in the stroller most of the time. He really seemed to enjoy the penguins. On our way out we bought Sophia a purse with a flamingo in it. She’s been carrying her new favorite animal “Mingo” around ever since.
Saturday night we went out for supper (a rare occasion with the entire family), then we went to the mall to let the kids run off a little steam. We were hoping they would sleep really good and let us sleep in on Sunday, but no such luck!!
Sunday our adventures out were to KMart and Hy-Vee. Sophia was finally brave enough to ride the horse at Hy-Vee. I told her if she could ride on a real camel, the little pretend horse would be easy. I held her hand and she had a good time.
This morning Kevin got our bikes together for a bike ride, but Derek really didn’t want to go. So Kevin and Sophia went on a ride and stopped at the park to play, while Derek took a nap and I ran around the house trying to clean as fast as possible.
This afternoon after both kids had their naps, we were finally able to get that helmet on Derek and get him strapped into the bike trailer. We rode quite a long way and Derek didn’t make a peep. Most of the time his helmet was in the front covering one eye, but he seemed to be having a good time looking around. We stopped at one of the neighborhood parks and let them play on the slides, swings and even the sand pit!! Derek screamed the entire way home…we got a few looks from the neighbors.
After supper we went on a walk and did cartwheels in the front yard. Can you believe I can still do a pretty good cartwheel? Kevin even impressed us with trying to do a handstand. Sophia was so impressed she giggled and clapped for her Daddy!!
On the potty training saga: Sophia went poopy in the potty twice today!! We seem to be having big issues with this potty training thing. She’s really smart and knows what she needs to do, she’s just not interested!! Will the diapers ever end?!
