We’ve been saying for a very long time that we could not wait for a three day weekend. However, it seems to have passed by so fast. Derek kept me company on a 4 hour trip to Vermillion on Saturday, leaving Sophia and Kevin for a Daddy/Daughter weekend. Derek was really good the entire way up, he would wake up long enough for me to sing along to the fridge DJ about 10 times, then he would fall back to sleep.
When we got to Vermillion we hung out with Auntie Karissa and Devin for a bit, then we all went over to my friend Lisa’s to grill out. All my college friends got together to see all the new babies. Tara flew into town to drive back to New Jersey with her brother, Renee brought her 7 week old twins and Lisa announced she was expecting. It was a crazy day and it was great to get together with them again!
Sunday Kim and Logan made the trip from Cherokee, so we could get the boys together again. Derek had a great time trying to figure out which one to torment…Devin just lays there and can’t get away, but Logan has fun hair to pull…hmm, what a tough decision for a little man to make. The boys are so fun to watch and we got great video of them together.
My friends Margaret and Kathy also stopped by on Sunday, it was great to get to catch up with them too!! Derek decided it was naptime around 2:30, so that meant it was time to get on the road. We finally made it out the door close to 3. It was too bad I had to stop to go to the bathroom, because it was all down hill from there. I fed Derek and let him play for awhile, got gas and left. It was a short 45 min stop, but it was not enough for Derek. He cried non-stop for the next 45 minutes. Just about when I was about to pull over he fell asleep and didn’t wake up until we were 5 minutes from home…whew…we made it!!
Sophia and Kevin had a great Daddy/Daughter weekend too, they did a lot of shopping and went out to eat a couple of times. They even bought Derek a baby swing. I’m not sure what they all did, but I must say that Sophia missed Derek sooo much. When we came in, all her love and affection went straight to Derek, which calmed him down too.
Today we spent most of the day playing in the back yard with the water table, water toys and swing set. They installed our new swing set on Friday, which I just LOVE!! Three day weekends are great, but I could use more of them!
Hmm, let’s see. This comment could totally be a blog post.
We went to Lowes on Saturday and afterwards, we headed over to the Tavern for cavatelli (which Sophia absolutely loved and ate the entire thing). Although it was getting close to naptime, I decided to head out to Jordan Creek mall, but as luck would have it, Sophia fell asleep in the backseat.
As we’ve learned in the past, never skip naps! So, I sat in the parking lot for nearly 20 minutes waiting for her to wake up - which she never did. Anyway, it was time to head for home; Sophia woke up, just as I was pulling in to the garage.
For the rest of the day, we watched Toy Story 2 (which totally confused her - why are the toys talking daddy?), had supper at the neighbors (Sophia, Liv and Aubrey all had a wonderful time expressing everything that was “theirs”), read books and totally zonked out for the night.
Aside from Sophia’s constipation (which made her very grumpy - can ya blame a kid?), we had a pretty good weekend.
Lynnette mention of Sophia missing Derek is very true; she didn’t want much to do with mommy when they got home, it was all Derek, Derek, Derek!
That is so awsome that you still keep in touch with people from college! I can hardly find time to keep in touch with people who live here in town. It was neat to hear about everyone, had no idea about Renee! I haven’t heard anything about any of them since college. That’s great. I really enjoy reading up on your family, Your kiddos sure are adorable!
