After Derek’s second outfit change, I thought things couldn’t get any scarier. I should have known that with kids, you shouldn’t think thoughts like that, because things always get worse. Derek had a bit of a problem in the morning with spit-up and since I forgot to outfit him with a bib that morning, his first outfit change was before 10 am…no big deal.

Right before lunch, Derek was in a great mood, so we decided he could join us at the lunch table in his exersaucer. He has grown to love play time in his saucer, every now and again we’ll hear the lion roar or duck quack. It’s really cute. Anyway, after lunch his neck seemed to be getting a little tired so I put him on the floor to play (on a blanket) while I cleaned up the kitchen. Meanwhile, Kevin and Sophia had gone downstairs to play. I looked over at Derek doing his newest trick (inches from rolling over), when I noticed that right at his pants line was a huge wet spot…turns out it wasn’t just pee, it was poo poo (and a LOT of it). And the biggest poo poo mess that I had ever encountered!! So of course that ended up in an emergency bath. Our thoughts will be with the washrag and blanket that were tossed away during that mishap. The outfit would have been right there with the rest of the items, but it was brand new and one of our only 12 month short sleeve outfits…so it was spared.

So the day went on like any other. During supper, we put Derek in his saucer again…what were we thinking? After supper I pulled Derek out and went to change his pants. I pulled off his pants and unsnapped his onesie…nothing unusually. I just happened to look down at his sock, which was smeared in poo poo. My mind went in a couple different directions, before I decided to ask Kevin to check out the bottom of the saucer. Sure enough, it had gone straight down his leg and onto the floor of his saucer. It just happened to miss almost his entire outfit, except for the poor little sock, that did not make it.

So we have decided that the way Derek sits in his saucer and the velocity at which his poo poo travels while in it, does not end in a pleasant experience.
