We got our Time Capsule!

After the fiasco of our old laptop croaking and Lynnette losing a ton of stuff, I made a promise that I would do my best to come up with a solution.

Leave it to Apple, to come up with one of the easiest solutions possible (and in turn make my job easy).

While certainly not cheap ($299 500GB/$499 1TB), Time Capsule is a tremendous leap forward in the ease of use factor. I had it operation in a matter of minutes, and our MacBook Pro is currently in the process of shoving files over.

Couple things to note:

  1. Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard only for automated backups using Time Machine
  2. Can function as an network attached storage (NAS) device for any platform
  3. If you have any wireless device, that isn’t 802.11n capable, it automatically downgrades itself (bummer)

Any questions?

Update on the Time Capsule. Seems I missed the fine print on just how long it takes to perform the initial backup - the darn thing has been running since last night and is just barely half way (14.96GB from 28.49GB)

I hope this gets better once the initial job is done. Realizing our MacBook Pro has an older Airport card, it’s only capable of 54Mbs. - no where near the full bandwidth of the Time Capsule.

There was a recent update, that may help, but I hesitate to stop the current process since it’s been running for so long.
