BIG Saturday

Sophia has shown to be such a good girl the last couple of weeks, so we decided to do something really brave. After much discussion, we decided it was time to make Sophia’s bed into a BIG girl bed. She was a bit confused at first, but after she got in and out of her bed numerous times, she seemed to like her new found freedom.

The test came last night during bedtime. After our 30 minute routine of books, kissing Spongebob, Lexi, Daddy, Derek, Mommy, pointing and saying each color on her lighted tree, cuddles, more books, singing the “wheels on the bus” and “twinkle twinkle”, another cuddle, then our final kiss and a final back rub. I decided it was time to escape as I gave her one last “I love you”.

She ran to the door and screamed for a couple of minutes. After about 5 minutes it was quite. Kevin and I fought off the urge to peek in and see where she was sleeping. Kevin’s bet was on the floor next to her bed and I had so many things running through my head, I was just hoping her room wasn’t trashed. About a half hour later we gave in and there she was, our little angel passed out cold in her bed.

I did happen to get up at 6 am Sunday morning to pump, when I was done I heard a thump and Sophia scream for a quick 5 seconds…then I heard nothing else. My guess is that she fell out of bed and jumped right back in and fell back to sleep, because when we woke her up later on that morning she was sound asleep on the opposite side of her bed.

And a quick update on Derek…he has turned into a BIG eater. He eats and eats and eats!! After he left the NICU I had a good 150 oz of milk stored in our freezer. He has eaten so much in the last couple of months, I just can’t keep up. So Saturday we decided it was time to mix some formula with a couple of his bottles each day. I’ll keep you updated on how that is going.

Also, I have almost given up nursing half a dozen times. Over the last couple of weeks, I would nurse him every other day, if even that. I was mostly just pumping and nursing just to pacify him before bed. On Friday I decided to give him one last try (again). So it seems that he didn’t like that threat and has been a champion nurser all weekend long. Hopefully that continues, because solely pumping was stressing me out a bit.

  1. 1 Kevin

Sophia and I also did a ton of shopping over the weekend, including going to: Walgreen’s, K-Mart, Sam’s Club and the grocery store. She was such a good helper and really made the experiences fun.

She would usually ride in the cart for the first couple isles, but would quickly say: “Daddy, walk round.” I would then take her out and we would both walk around gathering the stuff on our “lists”.

The check-out processes would get a little interesting sometimes, but all in all, we both survived. :)

I can’t wait to see what the next week brings.
