Howdy faithful readers.

As many of you know, or can see on our blog, I really have a passion for taking digital pictures. And on more than one occasion, I’ve been told that my photos aren’t half bad. With this, and my passion, I’d like to establish a freelance photography business. As the Des Moines market is really saturated with Photographers, I’m hoping to reach out to friends and family members to provide “word of mouth” referrals.

I haven’t decided on a name, or a specific pricing strategy as of yet. All I know is, I would really like to take my hobby to a professional level.

My preferred work would be what I like to call “real world photography”. Meaning, I have little interest in taking school pictures (cookie-cutter poses); I’d rather like to focus on real people, doing real things (e.g. kids playing, birthday celebrations, etc.).

I currently have what you would call “pro-sumer” equipment, consisting of: a Canon XTi DSLR (with a battery pack), and external 430ex flash, a pistol grib tripod (and monopod), a standard zoom (17-85mm f/4-5.6 IS USM) and a prime portrait (50mm f1.4) lens. Ideally, I’d like to invest in a Telephoto Zoom lens (my eye is on a 70-200 f/2.8 IS USM), but Lynnette says I need some clients first, because it’s big bucks.
