Wow, a lot has happened in the last 24 hours. Derek got moved to the NICU overflow unit yesterday. They explained that he is a “feeder/grower” and doesn’t need as much attention. Anyway, the move just means we’re one step closer to going home (still a couple weeks away).

Tonight when we showed up at the hospital, he surprised us by hitting the big 6 lbs…with an extra ounce as a little bonus. Then we got to give him his first bath, which he really seemed to like. While cleaning his belly button, his cord fell off.

This afternoon they upped his feedings to almost 2 oz per feeding. Tonight he was a champion sucker!! He nursed wonderfully. In fact, they didn’t even supplement him with additional milk. That means he’s met one goal feeding. He has to have 8 goal feeding (in a row) before he can go home. He’s up to nursing 3 times per day (as of this afternoon).

And last but not least, he has one more test for the night. If he can regulate his body temperature tonight (for his midnight feeding), they will move him from his spaceship into a real baby crib.

Our little boy is growing up so fast!!
