Derek is “My Rock”

Every day around noon, the doctor does rounds. It’s almost exactly like you see on TV. Derek’s nurse practitioner gives the doctor the daily updates. The doctor asks questions and they set the orders for that day.

Today the doctor came to the door, he started with “Derek is my rock…my one solid baby”. That made me feel really good. Wednesday Derek had all his IVs taken out, which was such a great relief as he had been getting at least one new IV every day and didn’t really have any good veins left.

Last night they took the lights off him for the jaundice, and today his levels were still going down, which is the first time ever without the lights. Woo Hoo! Every day we have new milestones to celebrate, which makes some of the little hiccups a little easier to overcome. And this morning he nursed like a champ, 15 ML, which is 1/3 of his feeding.

And he’s back up to his birth weight- 5 lbs, 10 oz.

I hope you will get to go home soon and enjoy the crazy life of having more than one child at home! You’ll love every mintue of it! We will have to get our new baby boys together some time!
