Bed Time Routine

Sophia gets a bath every other night, which is going much better by the way!! Woo, Hoo, thank goodness, bath time is pleasant most of the time.

After our bath or around 8:15ish, we head into Sophia’s room and read books. We read the same 3 books every night (Animals, Colors, and baby words). She’s getting really good about pointing to the things we ask her to. She loves her animal book and even makes the gorilla sound while moving her arms around (like a gorilla). This is usually the best time of the night!!

While reading we change her diaper, get her jammies on and brush her teeth. Every night we have to remind her that we don’t stand up with her toothbrush in her mouth.

Then around 8:45 or 9ish, we say it’s hugs time. Sophia will go over and give Lexi a hug and a kiss, then walk around the room pointing things out and asking “what’s that”. We call this her stalling technique.

Kevin usually picks her up and we all have a big group hug. After she’s in her crib, then we start the pointing game. Everything she points to gets turned on…radio (with nursery rhyme cd), night-light, then the mobile. By this time she usually has baby, teddy bunny, another stuffed animal of choice, her blanket, and a sippy with water in her crib.

Kevin will say “good night night” and leave the room. Sophia says nigh-nigh. I then chase her around her crib to catch a little kiss, then ask her to lie down, which she usually does. I’ll rub her back for about a minute or two, then open the door to leave. By this time she’ll have popped up and is pointing to her the letters in her name above her crib saying “what’s that”. Again, with the stalling technique. I turn to her and say “night-night” with a big smile. She’ll say nigh-nigh. I then close the door and we don’t hear a peep out of her for the rest of the night. What a great kid!!
