Sophia seems to love what we call “the big kid room”. She seems to be picking up a ton of stuff. She jabbers a lot more and tries to sing along with us. Every now and again I think she might be trying to sing the ABC’s.
However, with the good comes the bad. It seems all the kids in the “big kid room” have a tendency to hit. Sophia started it late last week and we can’t seem to break her of it. The teacher today said that they do have a real hitting problem in that room. And to top it all of, Sophia bit a kid twice today. That means I’m the parent of a biter….HELP!!!
Did I mention she had her first TIME OUT last night. Kevin has told her over and over again to stop hitting Lexi and to be nice. The last straw was when she threw her cup straight at Lexi’s face. Lexi seems to take things very well…thank goodness!
Anyway, Kevin did a great job of putting her in time out and following through. I tried to stay in the kitchen and stay out of it, all the while encouraging him. I think it was pretty hard for him to scold her. Good job dear!!

I wouldn’t say that it was hard to scold her, or to put her in time out. I think the hard part, was not to get upset myself and to keep a rational head and commit to punishment.
The whole process went pretty well I think. Based on her reaction, I believe she at least understood (as best a seventeen month old could) it was a bad place to be. She probably doesn’t quite understand the reason she was placed there, was because of her choice to hit Lexi.
We are finding that as she approaches the “terrible twos”, it’s not always sugar and kisses.
