Test

Friday was a very long day for Peanut and me! It was the fourth business day of the month (which is my busiest day), so I decided to head into work at 6:45 AM. I went up to the hospital at 7:45 for my 3-hour test. The registration line was not moving at all, so by the time I got signed in everything was already running late.

When the lab tech attempted to take my first blood draw of the morning, she missed. So after the first draw, I already had two needle marks in my left arm. Then I had to wait until my results came back before I took the sugar drink. By the time it finally came back it was 9:15 and I was starving.

After I drank the yummy orange drink I headed up to the IHHC office in the atrium of the hospital. That’s where I was going to be working for the morning. Turns out there’s a big food kiosk directly in front of the door to the office. How torturous!!

Anyway my second blood draw at 10:15 was fine and the morning seemed to go by pretty quickly. When I went in for my 11:15 blood draw, there was a new tech and she thought she might try my right arm (which no one can ever seem to find any good veins in my right arm). So I wasn’t surprised after her attempt was not successful. So now after three blood draws, I had 5 needle marks in my arm.

I again walked by the food kiosk back into my working area for the day. Around 11:30 I started to get really warm. Shortly after that I noticed my feet and hands swelling up, followed by shaking and a bit of nauseousness. I decided I should probably pack up my stuff and head down to the lab. My last blood draw was at 12:15 and only one poke. Before leaving the waiting area I snarfed down a granola bar and was feeling much better.

I ended up working that night until 6. Needless to say I was exhausted by 10, when I finally gave in and went to bed.
